Sentinel chairs

These two chairs nod to the fortified nature of this stone structure. Situated in a contested area of Northumberland, the house was adapted to withstand raids from the North. The history of conflict has been influential in the legends and stories that shroud this landmark. The chairs now stand alert, as guards and defenders of Aydon Castle. These objects are designed to be visually imposing, with heavy straight lines and humanlike silhouettes. The angular construction of the pieces provides an upright and assertive sitting position. Standing side by side, these two sentinels are the last garrison within these walls.
